Johannesburg
A charming little suburb where the homes date back to the 1920s, the people are friendly and the eatery options are plentiful.
January 2024One of the first spots I visited in Norwood. Ideal for a scrumptious brekkie and a mean cuppa coffee. Make sure to check out their "Loof2Loof" fun runs between their Norwood and Greenside locations. It takes place the first Sunday of every month. Check out their instagram page for more details: @loofcoffee.
It's eclectic, flavourful, and beautifully located. Another must-visit for any newcomers in Norwood. They're regularly updating their dishes and offering daily specials which make for a super fresh and interesting menu selection. @bahatacosa
A gathering place at its finest. The factory houses a plethora of different businesses, restaurants, and a beautiful rooftop bar. The open courtyard and shared space make it the ideal location for the artful interactions that the charters of Norwood are known for. Good-hearted people who're skillful wheelers and dealers with a wealth of knowledge or contacts to get you out of any pickle. @factory_on_grant
Feeling peckish? Pop into the following restaurants in the area: Momo & O, The Schwarma Co, Nonna Mia's Pizza, Shashi Khana, Roast2Go, The Usual on Grant.
The dream destination for anyone who loves Italian products. This specialised supermarket truly feels like a little portal straight to Italy with one of the best selections of imported Italian goods in the city. There's heaps of parking right in front of the store, making it a very convenient location for a big shop!
What a refined way to end the day. Located in neighbouring Houghton, overlooking the golf course. Chef Freddie Dias produces a truly exciting menu with some beautiful dishes to choose from.
One of Joburg's oldest and most characterful bars and eateries. Radium Beer Hall boasts a rich history stretching back as far as the 1920s with an interesting past as an illicit shebeen. A place for progressives and misfits, malkops, and musicians. Not to be missed when in the area.
Head to these spots when in Norwood: Houghton Golf Course, Anderson Nursery & Cafe, and Hashtag Escape Rooms.
Another classic Joburg institution that's made itself at home on Grant Avenue. Ba-Pita is a beautiful story of how an enthusiastic entrepreneur channelled his love for good food and ingredients to challenge Joburg's dining culture. Less time rushing from A-B and more time spent enjoying food as it was intended to be. But for now, just make sure you don't miss the Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurant during your next visit. @bapita_jhb
