Cape Town
Situated less than 2 hours outside of Cape Town, Tulbagh is a quaint town known for its ample wine farms, breathtaking mountains and fresh air. Every August & September the Canola fields are in full bloom, making this the perfect weekend road trip.
August 2023Head through for your 2pm check-in at Lemberg Wine Estate. But not before stopping off at @moralecoffeetogo. A coffee van set up amongst haybales with a front row seat to the fields. Lemberg offers gorgeous rooms overlooking their dam with vast mountain views. Pop in for a wine-tasting before sundown or sip your wine at sunset by the fire pit at the dam. Head for dinner at The Readers Restaurant set in one of the original historic buildings from the 1750's.
Wake up and take in the fresh, crisp mountain air. Pack your walking shoes and explore the farm before heading into town for breakfast at Kole & Deeg, a fantastic eatery and bakery. While you're on the main road, pop into Made in Tulbagh (M.I.T) for a range of locally designed and crafted products like jewellery, ceramics, leather, body oils and so on. Be sure to walk Church Street for a dose of history and heritage.
Next we visit Saronsberg to view their impressive art gallery and sip on award winning wines. But pace yourself because you won't want to miss out on our next stop - Montpellier. A beautiful 300 year old venue where you follow the music through the forest to find their glass house serving up bubbles and pizza. They even have a kiddies pairing menu with 3 non-alcoholic beverages and 3 snacks. If you haven't opted for self-catering at Lemberg, be sure to try Daphne's for Dinner.
Restful or restless? Either book yourself in for a spa treatment at Vindoux Day Spa or be sure to book a horse-riding excursion for the family through @vrolikheidlandgoed (If you're looking for a romantic getaway for two, I would also recommended staying here). Whichever suits you, it's time to check-out and hit the road, but we're not done yet. Stop off in the nearby town of Riebeeck-Kasteel for wine and olive tasting at the award winning Kloovenburg. Enjoy!
Opposite the Royal Hotel you’ll find what looks like a collection of old buildings in a small square - this is called Short Street and has a quaint selection of shops (think essential oils, a clay studio, leather products etc). And pop into Crytal & Twine for home decor. Another quaint stop is the Riebeek Valley Garden Centre for its lush atmosphere, stained glass windows, moss-covered stone walls and tinkling waterfalls. Be sure to try a pastry from the Au Bouchon Rouge run by a french chef.
